An Exhibition at the de Young Museum, San Francisco, California
With over 100 photographs spanning Ansel Adams’ extraordinary career Ansel Adams in Our Time brings Ansel back to the de Young Museum. In 1932 this site held his first exhibition, and now, 91 years later, he is back home. Ansel’s breathtaking gelatin-silver photographs have inspired and provoked conversations about environmentalism. Accompanying his photographs in this exhibition are contemporary artists who are inspired by Ansel and continue to use their artwork to bring environmentalism to modern society.
“The whole world is, to me, very much “alive” -all the little growing things, even the rocks. I can’t look at a swell bit of grass and earth, for instance, without feeling the essential life-the things going on-within them. The same goes for a mountain, or a bit of the ocean, or a magnificent piece of old wood.” –Ansel Adams, Letters page 129
