Born in Yosemite – an inspirational visit with Peter T. HossAugust 7, 2013
This weekend, I had the great pleasure of sitting and talking with Author and Ansel Adams Gallery Board Member, Peter T. Hoss, about his book, Born in Yosemite. On the book’s back cover it shows a picture of Mr. Hoss and Ansel Adams’s son, Dr. Michael Adams with the caption of “First Friends” – Dr. Adams and Mr Hoss were born months apart in Yosemite National Park in the 1930s. Mr. Hoss’s book is the self-described personal observations of 75 years of the Passions. Politics, Traditions, Personalities, Adventures and Misadventures from the perspective of a true Yosemite insider. This book is richly enhanced by photographs from the Yosemite Research Library, the Tom Frost Climbing Collection, the Ansel Adams Family collection and the Hoss family collection.
With the Merced River Draft Plan becoming a contested current event, Mr. Hoss devotes three prophetic chapters that addresses the Yosemite Master Plan, The Merced River litigation and his personal view on “What is Appropriate for Yosemite.” For the Yosemite fan, this book takes you far beyond the guidebooks descriptions and opens you to very personal, humorous and insightful accounts from a true Yosemite native.
